Wine Consumer

The only official wine consumer network on the web.

Iowa is a great place to learn about wine. Each week, there are many wine shops and grocery stores in the Des Moines area featuring wine tasting. Here a couple events coming up:

It's the DEAD of winter here so there's not a lot to do out there, wine-wise. But it'll get better.

My friends at Vintage Wine & Spirits are still having their weekly tastings. Here's some news from them:

January:
Thursday 15th, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Back again! Cellarmaster's Tasting Cost $40/person or $60/couple.*
* RSVP requested.
New Regular Events for '09:
Every Thursday evening and Saturday during the day we are offering a revolving variety of really cool events.
Thursdays:
UFO: The Unusual, Freakish, and Odd of the wine world
Cellar Master's Tasting: Your chance to try the really cool high-end wines from around the world. Proper decanting and glassware provided.
Value Brands: The new and exciting values under $15 that fill your wine cabinet with ease.
Regionals: A great way to learn about the specifics from the wine making regions of the world.Saturdays:
What we're drinking: A collection of the wines, beers, and spirits that we are taking home on a regular basis, and we stand behind them with discounted pricing.Food & Wine Pairings: How could anyone miss this? We'll bring in food and pair up different options for wines to go with that particular dish(es).
Monthly Focus: Whatever comes to mind, but just for a teaser January 24, 09 will be Cabs, and lots of them.
Blind Tasting: Attendees put on a blindfold and learn to really taste. (Just kidding.)

Thursday, January 22nd, the Hy-Vee on Mills Civic Pkwy, W. Des Moines, is holding their monthly wine club. This month it's "Big Wines At Budget Prices" featuring great, inexpensive wines from all around the world. Cost is $15. A spot must be reserved in advance so please call to reserve your place.

Friday February 20th, the Des Moines Metro Opera will have their Food & Wine Showcase at the Marriott Hotel downtown. This is a super event with a lot of great local restaurants showing off their talents and a Grand Tasting. Tickets are $50 each and are on sale now.

And last but not least, a little birdie told me that Pete Seghesio of Seghesio Vineyards will once again be gracing our presence for a tasting and wine dinner in April. Should make for a GREAT time! I'll provide more details closer to the event.

That's it for now! Stay warm!

Cheers to everyone!

Grace
